It’s time to stop blaming the victims and start taking the issue seriously. Sexual harassment at the workplace, which India’s criminal laws often group with street harassment, is nevertheless a distinct category of gender violence. It is defined by its occurrence in a ‘workplace’, or any physical or virtual space where individuals are employed to work, either formally or informally, with or without remuneration. Under the newly passed Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, the ‘workplace’ can include any public or private sector organisation; a ‘dwelling place or house’ where individuals may be employed as domestic workers; the unorganised sector; or any place that an employee may visit as part of her job, including the transportation that her employer may provide for this purpose. Workplace sexual harassment, as defined by the new law, refers to any unwelcome sexual behaviour, either directly or by implication, and includes physical contact and advances; a demand or request for sexual favours; making sexually coloured remarks; showing pornography; or any other unwelcome physical, verbal or non-verbal conduct of a sexual nature. ઉઠો, જાગો અને સુરક્ષિત બનો. સ્વરક્ષિત બનો કહે છે કે આવનાર સમય અને આફત જાણ કરીને નથી આવતા. તેના માટે અત્યારે જ તૈયાર રહેવામાં જ શાણપણ છે. વાત તો સાચી. આવનાર આફત કેવી હશે તેની કોઈને ખબર નથી હોતી અને આપણે તેના માટે અજાણ હોઈએ છીએ. એટલે જ કહે છે ‘સમય વર્તે સાવધાન.’ આજના સમયમાં મહિલાઓ માટે પોતાની સુરક્ષા એક અગત્યનો પ્રશ્ન બની ગયો છે. મહિલાઓની સુરક્ષા માટે સરકાર અને સ્વયંસેવી સંસ્થાઓ પણ ખાસ કાર્યક્રમો અમલમાં મૂકી રહી છે. મહિલાઓની સુરક્ષા માટે ૧૦૯૧ પોલીસ હાર્ટ નામની સક્રિય હેલ્પ લાઈન પણ શરૂ કરવામાં આવી છે. આટઆટલા પ્રયત્નો અને પ્રયાસો કરવા છતાં મહિલાઓ પર ક્યાંકને ક્યાંક છેડતી કે અન્ય કોઈ રીતે અત્યાચાર કે શોષણ થતું જોવા મળે છે. એટલે જ મહિલાઓ સ્વયંસુરક્ષિત થાય તે બાબત પર ખાસ ભાર મુકવામાં આવે છે. સુરક્ષા સેતુ સોસાયટી દ્વારા પણ સ્વરક્ષણની તાલીમ આપટી શિબિરોનું આયોજન કરવામાં આવે છે. રાજ્યભરના તમામ જિલ્લાઓમાં ઉભી કરવામાં આવેલી સુરક્ષા સેતુ સોસાયટી અને સુરક્ષા સેટો કેન્દ્રો મારફત સ્વરક્ષણ તાલીમ શિબિરનું આયોજન કરવામાં આવે છે. શહેર પોલીસ દ્વારા પણ અવારનવાર સ્વરક્ષણની તાલીમ આપવા માટેના સેમીનાર કરવામાં આવે છે. આ પ્રકારની તાલીમ શિબિરો અને સેમિનારમાં વધુમાં વધુ મહિલાઓ જોડાય તે માટે તેમને પ્રોત્સાહિત કરવામાં આવે છે. મહિલાઓને સ્વરક્ષણની તાલીમ લેવા માટે પ્રોત્સાહિત કરવા માટે અવનવા કાર્યક્રમો પણ કરવામાં આવે છે. સ્વરક્ષણની તાલીમ મહિલાઓને કઈ રીતે ઉપયોગી થઇ શકે અને તાલીમ શિબિરમાં આપવામાં આવેલી તાલીમનો ઉપયોગ તેઓ કઈ રીતે કરી શકે તે માટે પણ તેમને માર્ગદર્શન આપવામાં આવે છે. સ્વરક્ષણની તાલીમ અને સ્વરક્ષણ માટેની ટેકનીક્સ વિષે મહિલાઓને જાણકારી અને માર્ગદર્શન આપી તેમને જાગૃત કરવામાં આવે છે. જયારે પણ કોઈ મહિલા કોઈ પણ પ્રકારની આફતમાં મુકાય તો તે પોતાને નિઃસહાય માનવાની ભૂલ કરે છે. જેનો ફાયદાઓ તેના...

Project Suraksha Setu is launched with the idea of bridging this distance and bringing the police closer to the people they protect.
